Our Story

The Rooted Craftsman has been crafting fine furniture and custom wood products for over 30 years. Jon, owner and carpenter, developed his love of wood from the small lake cottage he lived in as a boy. The walls were covered in plywood and he marveled at the wonderful grain patterns.

Jon learned to work with his hands from his father. Although it was in vehicle restoration and metal work, his father taught him and his brother valuable lifelong skills. Both of his parents instilled a strong work ethic into Jon and his three siblings.

The name, The Rooted Craftsman, is derived from being rooted in Christ and the God-given ability to craft generational pieces from natures raw materials. Living in Indiana provides access to some of the highest-quality furniture species in the world. Most of the lumber used comes from naturally fallen trees or selectively felled trees to prevent home or other property damage. Although most of the lumber comes from Indiana, the company has access to exotic and other species to serve your taste.
